A Midsummer Night's Dream - May 2018

What's next?

The Crouch End Players Present

A Midsummer Night’s Dream

Earl Haig Hall, Crouch End, London N8

9th – 12th May 2018

The Crouch End Players will celebrate the end of this long cold winter by bringing to life Shakespeare’s most popular comedy.  In this joyful contemporary production, mayhem ensues as lovelorn hipsters and modern mechanicals find themselves the pawns in a game between the feuding Fairy King and Queen. Silly, slapstick and even a bit raunchy, this pacy production finds laughter in every line of a well-loved classic.
On a Midsummer’s night, four young lovers run away from Athens and find themselves in an enchanted forest where sprites and fairies rule. A group of amateur players, led by Bottom and Quince, rehearsing their play for the Duke’s wedding celebrations, are also drawn into the fairies’ games. Chief mischief-maker Puck is on-hand to ensure that the course of true love is anything but smooth, and games of fantasy, love and dreams ensue in Shakespeare’s most beguiling comedy.
The show features original music by David Tims with song and dance an essential part of the action. In the welcoming atmosphere of the Earl Haig Hall Shakespeare’s Athenian forest will be transformed into an urban jungle peopled by a rich mixture of gods and mortals.

The Players are no strangers to Shakespeare, following an open-air summer production of As You Like It in Priory Park in 2014 and Twelfth Night at Hornsey Town Hall Arts Centre in 2016. A Midsummer Night’s Dream will be their first production in the Earl Haig Hall since “Putting on the Blitz” in 2011.

Tickets priced £10 will be available on this site from 6th April

Production Updates April 2017

What's next?

After a sell-out production of The Vagina Monologues at Hornsey Town Hall, we are now busy planning and rehearsing no fewer than 6 productions to be performed during the 2017 Crouch End Festival in June.

As usual, our productions span a range of genres,  from our ever-popular "Once Upon a Storytime" interactive storytelling for children and live Vintage Radio drama to original short plays, sketches, a musical piece and improvised comedy.

Our newly-formed Development Group within the Crouch End Players has helped to nurture and support writing talent within the group, some of which will be debuted as part of the festival!

Watch this space for schedules and further information.

After the Crouch End Festival

We thoroughly enjoyed participating in the 2016 Crouch End Festival.

This year, we managed to rise to the logistical challenge of co-ordinating a hectic  rehearsal schedule, developing, and eventually, performing 5 different shows!

We  would like to thank all our venues for hosting our productions, the festival organisers and, of course, the hundreds of people who came along to see us!

Special thanks to our hosts:

As a community group, we are committed to offering our festival shows to our audiences free of charge, to thank you for supporting our shows the rest of the year.

We are so delighted that so many of you chose to come along.

Coming up next

We are now looking forward to our annual picnic and  our next AGM as well as planning our next productions.

In the meantime we are taking advantage of some exciting acting training workshops from director Kate Stafford to keep us on our toes!
